Laser gum lift physically reshapes the gum line by removing excess tissue, giving you a permanent result. Botox takes a non-surgical approach, relaxing the muscle that pulls your upper lip up too high, so less gum shows when you smile. Here’s a closer look at how each one works.
Laser gum lift
If your gums sit low over your teeth, a laser can take the extra tissue away and reshape the gum line so more of each tooth shows. It's done under local anaesthetic, and because the laser seals as it works there's very little bleeding and most people are back to normal within a few days. Once the gum has been reshaped it stays that way.
Muscle relaxant injections
Sometimes the gums are perfectly normal and it's the upper lip travelling too far when you smile. A small amount of muscle relaxant in the right spot stops the lip lifting as high, so less gum shows. Nothing is removed and there's no recovery time, though it wears off after 3 to 4 months and needs doing again to keep the effect.
