A Practice with History
For more than 75 years, this practice has been a place where generations of families have entrusted us with their smiles.
Our doors first opened in 1950, when Dr Frank Southby established the practice at 204 Upper Heidelberg Road. When Dr Southby retired, the practice passed into the hands of Dr Graham Walker, who continued to care for generations of patients from the same location.
Over time, the practice grew, as did the community of patients who had come to know and value it. When Dr Marcus Ford took over, it became clear that the practice had outgrown its original home. A new chapter followed with the move to 114 Waterdale Road, creating the space and capacity to continue caring for the growing patient community.
It was here that Smile Connections was born.
The name reflected something that had always been at the heart of the practice: the connection between people and their smiles. The new home gave the practice room to grow while continuing the relationships that had been built over decades.
In 2023, the practice entered its fourth generation when Dr Anna and Dr Wei took the reins. They are proud to continue the story that began more than seven decades ago, building on the foundations laid by those who came before them while looking towards the future.
Perhaps no one embodies this history quite like Graham, who first walked through the practice doors as a child. More than 75 years later, he still remains a patient of the practice and, remarkably, has been cared for across all four generations of dentists.
His story is a wonderful reflection of what makes our practice special. Dentistry changes. Technology advances. And practices evolve. But the connection between a patient and their dental team can last a lifetime.
Today, we are proud to continue that legacy. While things change with time, the importance of connecting with people and making them smile does not.

The equipment we use, and why it matters to you
We've put a fair bit into our gear over the years. Not because we like shiny things, but because it means fewer visits, less time in the chair and a lot less discomfort. Here's what you'll come across.
Same day crowns with CEREC
We make ceramic crowns right here in the practice on a CEREC Primemill. So instead of going home with a temporary and coming back a fortnight later, you walk out with the finished tooth in about an hour. The same machine makes veneers for chipped or stained front teeth, and inlays and onlays to rebuild a broken molar.
Primescan 3D scanner
If you've ever sat there with a mouthful of cold impression putty trying not to gag, this is the bit you'll like. The Primescan takes a full colour 3D scan of your teeth with a small handheld wand. No trays, no goo. That scan is what we use to design your crown, bridge, inlay or onlay, usually in the same appointment.
AIRFLOW cleaning
This is how we do cleans now. A fine jet of warm water, air and powder lifts off plaque, stains and biofilm without the scraping you might remember from years ago. Most people find it a good deal more comfortable than a traditional scale and clean, and your teeth feel smoother afterwards.
A room you won't mind sitting in
Nobody loves the dentist's chair, so we've tried to make ours as pleasant as we can. The rooms are modern, spotless and set up so everything we need is within arm's reach. Less fuss and less noise for us means a shorter, calmer visit for you.
